- SERVING THOSE WHO NEED A HAND
Once again, NWC was the only college in Wyoming to receive a TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The $78,000 grant will fund the preschool for 3-5 year-olds at the NWC Children’s Learning and Care Center for two years. This allows NWC to offer free preschool services to income-eligible students, employees and community members.
- DIGGING UP MORE THAN HISTORY
NWC’s work with four other educational institutions earned the Project of the Year award from the Rocky Mountain Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit. Students and faculty from across the country participated in the award-winning Bighorn Canyon Archaeology Field School Project to update the Archaeological Sites Management Information System and other cultural resource information for the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area.
- LEADING ACADEMICS
Northwest tapped Gerald Giraud of South Dakota to serve as its next vice president for academic affairs. Most recently, Giraud served as vice president for instruction and chief academic officer at Oglala Lakota College. With a background in statistics, research methods, and assessment, Giraud holds bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees. He is charged with bringing vision and leadership to the college’s mission through his oversight of the instructional area.
- SEARCHING FOR PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES
Following President Paul Prestwich’s announcement in early March that he would leave the college after fulfilling his 2012-13 contract, NWC’s Board of Trustees began the process to launch a nationwide search for the college’s eighth President.
