Institutional Imperative #1:
Northwest College shall be the preeminent two-year educational institution in Wyoming.
Strategic Goals:
-The highest student completion rates (earned degrees and certificates) of any two-year educational institution in Wyoming
-The highest level of Wyoming community college student performance at transfer institutions (AA/AS) or in the workplace (AAS/certificate)
-A national leader among rural two-year colleges in international and intercultural programming, with unparalleled campus and curricular diversity
- ADVISING STUDENTS
Aimed at improving student retention and degree completion, plans were made to launch a student Advising Center. The center will collaborate with Student Affairs staff and faculty advisors, oversee a peer advising program, provide testing services, handle career advising, and develop and maintain transfer articulation agreements and MOUs.
- GRADUATING SOPHOMORES
Northwest graduated 308 sophomores during 2012-13, granting 378 degrees, an 18% increase in three years.
- REACHING STUDENTS ONLINE
During the 2012-13 school year, 1,277 students enrolled in online classes, an increase of 3% over the previous year.
- THINKING GLOBALLY
Just over 80 international students from 33 countries enrolled at Northwest this year. To attract more students from across the globe, collaborations were begun with universities in Nepal and India when two NWC staff joined a panel at the Indo-Global Education Summit 2012 alongside higher education leaders from all over the world. In addition, the NWC Foundation came within $64,410 of its fundraising goal to begin remodeling a residential house into NWC’s new Intercultural Center. The National Endowment for the Humanities provided the initial boost with a two-to-one matching $131,000 grant. The center is across the street from the Nelson Performing Arts Center.
- RELATING INTERNATIONALLY
NWC students made their mark at the 2013 National Model United Nations New York Conference, receiving the Outstanding Delegation Award for their work in the Security Council. Northwest’s International Studies program is in its second year.
