The Northwest College wrestling team will enter this weekend’s NJCAA National Championships with five nationally ranked wrestlers.
A total of nine Trapper wrestlers qualified at last week’s regional competition and will grapple in the Friday-Saturday national tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
The National Junior College Athletic Association’s rankings — which list the top eight wrestlers in each weight class — were updated Tuesday.
NWC’s five nationally ranked wrestlers are:
Lisiate Anau, ranked No. 2 in the HWT
Andrew VonRein, ranked No. 4 in the 165-pound weight class
Heber Shepherd, ranked No. 4 in the 184-pound weight class
Riley Loveless, ranked No. 5 in the 141-pound weight class
Justin Polkowske, ranked No. 7 in the 149-pound weight class
The other four members of the Trapper wrestling team who qualified for nationals are Taylor Jeffries at 133 pounds, Cameron Braden at 157 pounds, Matthew Widdicombe at 174 pounds and Jeffrey Oakes at 197 pounds.
