Trapper wrestling is set to return the entire roster that finished at the end of the 2021-22 season. Northwest hits the mat in just a few short months, bringing seven wrestlers back to Powell.

Leading the way back for the Trappers are two national qualifiers in Ryker Blackburn and Gus Harrison, who both made their way to the NJCAA National Championships in Iowa this past season.

Blackburn was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the Plains District Championships last year, and will look to earn another trip to nationals alongside Harrison.

The Trappers will also return Kendell Cummings, Avery McSpadden, Ivan Lee, Brian Benevidez and Dyllin Broughton to the program this upcoming season.

Lee, McSpadden and Cummings were the other three Trappers who competed at the Plains District Championships, but were unable to secure a trip to nationals.

Those three will look to make a leap this upcoming season, while Broughton and Benevidez will try to make their way into the Trapper lineup after not competing this past season.

Trappers Coach Jim Zeigler said that the program has been impacted by COVID the past couple years which led to low roster numbers, so being able to retain the entire roster from the previous season is a big step forward for Northwest.

In addition to returning seven wrestlers, the Trappers will bring in new talent to the mat.  Read more about the new Trapper recruits next week.
