The annual Apodaca wrestling duals — set to be hosted by Northwest College this Friday and Saturday — have been canceled, due to health concerns within the programs that planned to attend.
Trapper head coach Jim Zeigler said each team has had their own concerns regarding illness within their programs. He said each squad is going to focus on getting healthy for their district tournaments, which have been moved up a week from their original dates.
Northwest did not attend a dual last weekend in Sterling, Colorado, either, as Northeastern Junior College canceled the event due to COVID-19 concerns within the Plainsmen’s program.
Zeigler said there is a chance he’ll still present the Apodaca Award to a Trapper wrestler during halftime of an upcoming basketball game — tentatively the Wednesday, Feb. 16 matchup against Laramie County Community College.
