Losses To Trinidad, Otero Drop Lady Trappers To 3-8
The Northwest College women’s soccer team had a rough go in Colorado over the weekend, dropping games to Trinidad State and Otero Junior College.
The 6-1 loss to Trinidad Friday and the 6-2 loss to Otero Saturday dropped the Lady Trappers to 3-8 on the season, 1-4 in conference play.
TRINIDAD STATE 6, LADY TRAPPERS 1
Squaring off against his former team on Friday, NWC head coach Aaron Miller’s squad spotted the Lady Trojans (4-5, 3-3 in Region IX play) a 4-0 lead before avoiding the shutout in the second half
Lady Trappers freshman forward Sapirah Broussard found the back of the net in the game’s 65th minute, with an assist by sophomore Genevieve Sauers of Cody, to cut Trinidad’s lead to 4-1.
The Lady Trojans weren’t through yet, however, adding a pair of goals from Wendy De Loera to close out the 6-1 win.
NWC keeper Alexa Williams had a busy game in net, finishing with 14 saves on 20 shots. The Lady Trappers finished with six shots on goal in the contest.
OTERO 6, LADY TRAPPERS 2
Against Otero on Saturday, the Lady Trappers got off to a promising start, as Broussard scored on an assist by Gabrielle Dickson just eight minutes in to give NWC a 1-0 lead.
But Otero scored the next three goals of the game in rapid succession, two off the foot of Belle Shannon. Broussard scored again in the game’s 32nd minute, this time with an assist by Sauers, to cut the lead to 3-2; Otero scored once more to take a 4-2 lead into the half.
The second half was all Otero, as Adriana Caballero scored goals in the 65th and 68th minute to close out the 6-2 win.
Williams had another busy game in net for NWC, stopping 13 of 19 shots. The Lady Trappers had seven shots on goal for the game.
NWC is on the road again this weekend, with Region IX contests at Gillette (9-2, 5-1 in Region IX play) Friday and Sheridan (4-5-1, 4-3 in Region IX play) Saturday.
