NWC Women's Soccer Splits Labor Day Weekend Matchups

A dominant performance by the Northwest College women’s soccer team against Central Wyoming 7-3 at home on Saturday was followed by a 2-1 loss to Casper College on Monday as the Trappers wrapped up a strong run of form.

NORTHWEST 7, CENTRAL WYOMING 3Returning home on Saturday after a set of brief road trips, the Trappers (4-3) hosted the Rustlers (1-6) and got on the board early and often.

Aspen Kalkowski got things started just 2:30 into the game, scoring on a tidy finish to give Northwest the early 1-0 lead.

That was followed by a finish by Pressly Taylor off an Autumn Wilson assist, to give Powell a 2-0 lead just seven minutes into the match.

Central Wyoming had an answer, after a shot from distance found its way into the back of the net and cut the lead down to 2-1.

Despite an abundance of offside calls against Northwest early on, another opportunity came on a breakaway by Wilson who slotted it past the keeper to restore the two goal lead 15 minutes into the match.

The Rustlers once again scored on a shot from distance, finding the back of the net on a left footed shot over the keeper to make it 3-2 19 minutes in.

Tessa Hyland once again restored the two goal lead, after receiving a pass on a strong free kick and putting it home to make it 4-2.

Central got its third goal of the game after Trapper keeper Audette Rodolph pulled down an attacker and received a yellow card and gave the Rustlers a penalty.

It was converted and the Trappers led 4-3 going into the break.

Wilson had a shot out of the break saved off the post, and Northwest was unable to score until 18 minutes into the second half.

Samantha Bonar’s hustle led to a block, deflecting into a through ball that was finished by Taylor to make it 5-3.

Taylor got her hat trick just minutes later on another finish, giving Northwest the 6-3 lead.

Alexzia Garcia capped off the scoring with a goal with 18 minutes left, and Northwest cruised to a 7-3 victory.

Northwest outshot the visitors 22-6, and earned a fourth consecutive victory.

CASPER COLLEGE 2, NORTHWEST 1Continuing the weekend on Labor Day, the Trappers made the trip down to Casper to take on the Thunderbirds (5-1).

Casper got on the board first 13 minutes into the game after a scramble in the box was turned in to make it 1-0.

A long shot 30 minutes into the game found its way into the back of the net, and made it 2-0 in favor of the hosts.

Northwest got its goal just after half when a scramble in the box found the back of the net and cut the lead to 2-1.

The Trappers were unable to find an equalizer, and fell 2-1 to the Thunderbirds.
