Northwest College women’s basketball has added a new international player to its 2020-21 squad.
Fernanda “Celina” Tress, a 5-foot-9 forward from Mexico, will be on the Trappers’ roster when basketball starts in the spring semester.
“It was her goal to play in the states,” NWC head basketball coach Camden Levett said, “I’m glad we could make that happen.”
Tress played for the Mexican U17 National Team and is a pre-selection for the U18 squad. At the Centrobasket U17 tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Tress averaged 7.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in five contests.
According to coach Levett’s scouting report, Tress is a “strong forward” who specializes in penetrating to the lane. Her versatility sets her apart, and she is a good midrange scorer, Levett said.
With her on-court skill set and impressive work ethic, Tress should make an immediate impact on the squad.
“We are really excited to have her join us in the spring,” Levett said. “This young lady takes basketball very seriously, plays year round and has been in contact with me daily for workouts.”
