Northwest Trapper Volleyball Heads To Nationals

Northwest College Trappers will travel to Casper this week to test their game against 15 other top junior college teams in the NJCAA Division I National Volleyball Championships.

The Trappers will play Tyler (Texas) Junior College in opening round play at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Casper Events Center. For those who can’t watch the tournament in person, the matches will be streamed online at www.njcaatv.com.

The Trappers, 22-7 overall and 14-2 in conference, are seeded seventh. They earned their place at Nationals by holding off an upset-minded Laramie County Community College team to win their fourth consecutive Region IX North championship on Nov. 5. The Trappers finished fourth in the last two national championships and will be looking to do better this year.

Tyler, the 10th seed, enters the tourney as the champions of Region XIV and with an overall record of 18-14. The Apaches did not advance to the National Championship Tournament last year.

A win against Tyler would send the Trappers to a quarterfinal contest against the winner of a match between Iowa Western Jr. College and New Mexico Military Institute at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. A loss would drop them into the consolation bracket against the loser of that match.

Trapper fans are invited to join the NWC Athletic Department in giving the team a big send off in the Cabre Gym Lobby today (Tuesday) at 5 p.m.

Other teams battling at this week’s national tournament hail from Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Kansas, Nebraska, Alabama, Iowa, Missouri, Florida and New York. More information and brackets are available at www. njcaacasper.net.
