POWELL, Wyo. - When the Northwest College Volleyball Team shows up in pink at its Saturday, Oct. 9, match against Laramie County Community College, don’t worry that the Trapper’s crimson and grey uniforms are fading. The new color means Coach Flavia Siqueira and her players will be fighting a dual battle that night—against the LCCC Golden Eagles and against breast cancer.
The Trappers are sponsoring the Dig Pink event to support the Side-Out Foundation’s goal of raising $2.5 million. Side-Out uses the proceeds to fund grants to medical research organizations and entities dedicated to providing compassionate support to breast cancer patients and their families.
The Trappers encourage their fans to join them in wearing pink to the 3 p.m. game in Cabre Gym.
To make it easy, Trapper supporters will be selling pink t-shirts during the event. They’ll also distribute educational material and collect donations. Fans can even score some athletic apparel and further support the cause by bidding in a live auction.
The team’s goal is to raise $1,000 during the night. The Trappers are part of a team of college and high school volleyball coaches and teams across America who are hosting Dig Pink events to raise money for the Side-Out Foundation.
“We hope to see more than Trapper fans at this game,” Siqueira said. “If your life has been touched in any way by breast cancer, I hope you’ll come to support the larger cause we’re playing for. There’ll be a lot more happening than volleyball, so even if you don’t follow the game, you can still be a part of this event.”
Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for students, and free to senior citizens, children under age 12 accompanied by an adult, and NWC students with ID.
