The Northwest College volleyball team saw its season come to a close last week at the Region IX North Tournament after posting a 1-2 mark. Their effort also was enough to help them to a fifth-place finish.

"After it was over, I thanked the girls for letting me be a part of what they did this season," said NWC head coach Jesseca Cross. "They had a great season, and they played so well during the tournament. Their passing was perfect, and they were able to successfully do things that they weren't able to do during the season leading up to the tournament.

"In our previous matches with Western Wyoming and Sheridan, we didn't play very well. But this time around, the girls did a really good job, and I was so proud of them."

The Lady Trappers, who entered the event as the No. 7 seed, opened the event Thursday against second-seeded Western Wyoming Community College and lost the match in three games (30-19, 30-25, 30-27).

That loss put NWC into a loser- out match with sixth-seeded Eastern Wyoming College Friday morning. After winning the first two games (30-28, 30-22), the Lady Trappers dropped two in a row (30-25, 30-17) before claiming the fifth and deciding game by a score of 15-8.

The match win earned NWC a matchup with fourth-seeded Sheridan College Friday evening. The Lady Trappers played well, but lost in three games (30- 27, 30-23, 30-18).

Cross said a number of players had standout performances during the tournament, including sophomore Whitnie McDonald, who was tabbed a second-team, All- Region IX performer last week. Cross also noted the play of freshman Maddie Peterson and sophomores Breanne Robirds and Charcie Peabody.

"Everybody played well," Cross said. "Whitnie and Maddie did a great job serving and they made a lot of digs. They did everything they could to help us win. Breanne played well in the middle for us, and Charcie played like she always does."
