The Northwest College Lady Trappers will be on the road Tuesday (today) for a 6 p.m. match with Western Wyoming Community College.

The match comes on the heels of last Friday's trip to Miles City, Mont., where the Lady Trappers won two of three matches during the Miles City Triangular. During that event, NWC's first match started 45 minutes late due to a late arrival of Nebraska's Southeast Community College. The Lady Trappers still won the match, but it led to little down time the rest of the way as NWC basically played six straight hours of volleyball, according to NWC head coach Jesseca Cross.

"I thought our girls did a great job of maintaining a high level of energy throughout each match," Cross said. "Even in the last few games of our last match, the girls looked strong, particularly
Whitnie McDonald. I was amazed at how high she was jumping after playing so many games."

Following the win the opening match, NWC fell to the University of Great Falls before rebounding for a match win against the event's host team, Miles Community College. During the loss to Great Falls, Cross said the Lady Trappers forced a fifth and deciding game, which NWC lost 15-9.

A number of players turned in solid performances to go along with McDonald's standout effort. Cross noted the play of sophomores Charcie Peabody and Shawna Sutherland. Sutherland, who usually plays along the front line for the Lady Trappers, ended up playing in place
of libero Jennifer McKibben. McKibben, after the first match, was sidelined by a scratched eye sustained prior to the tournament. Because her vision was hindered, she told Cross it would be better for the team if she sat out.

Cross commended McKibben and Sutherland for the way they handled the adverse situation.

"I was impressed with all of the girls," Cross said. "Everybody played great, and it was a complete team effort. We played a lot of tight matches that went back and fourth, and they stuck together and got two big wins."

Team statistics and scores from the three matches were unavailable for publication.

Up next: The Lady Trappers, following the road match with Western Wyoming, will return home for a pair of home matches. On Friday, Oct. 5, NWC will face Laramie County Community College. The following day, the Lady Trappers will entertain Eastern Wyoming
