CODY, Wyo. - Two noncredit classes in Web design will be offered Saturday, April 25, and May 9, at the Northwest College Cody Center for Training and Development.
The registration deadline is Wednesday, April 22, for Web Design Made Simple, which runs from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 25. Instructor Bill Boudreaux plans to help students develop the basic skills needed to design Web pages and be their own webmaster. He'll introduce Internet terminology and concepts in addition to leading students through an open source (free) software program to design Web pages and manipulate images.
Starting with the basics of understanding the Internet and how it works, Boudreaux will cover e-mail, browsers, search engines, domain names and servers, IP addressing, Google's algorithms, social media and user-generated content. Students will learn about popular coding languages and complete their own HTML (HyperText Markup Language) project. They'll learn about Web page design in office applications and explore techniques for exporting Web documents from other applications. Image file types, resizing and optimization are also covered.
For those interested in the next level, Boudreaux will teach Web Design-Step Beyond the Basics from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 9. Registrations must be submitted by Wednesday, May 6.
Students in this session will use open source software again (Nvu), this time to build and publish an informational Web site based on their own interests and requirements. They'll explore design and layout options, build headers and buttons, and explore industry standard commercial software (Dreamweaver). They'll learn about publishing and using FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to exchange and manipulate files. Before the class is over, students will purchase a domain name or publish to a free site.
Cost for each class is $50, with a $5 discount for those who enroll in both.
