P O W E L L, W y o. - Accidentally digging into a utility line is a quick road to headaches and hard feelings. That's why one-day Utility Locator Workshops will be offered Tuesday and Thursday, Sept. 23 and 25 in Worland and Powell.
Instructors Monte Harnden and William Burnett of Center Line Resource Inc. are working professionals in the field with a combined field experience of nearly 70 years. They'll share a full day's worth of information and hands-on opportunities geared for both professional locators and those who are just starting.
Participants will learn about federal, state and local laws; best practices; safety considerations; locating principles and limitations; transmitter and receiver use, plus more. Workshop discussions will cover circuit, path, frequency, distortion, interference, rules, field shape and depth testing.
Plenty of on-site techniques and hands-on field training are provided, along with some written and field tests.
Experienced locator professionals are asked to bring their own locator equipment if possible so they can be trained on their own tools. Equipment will be provided for new trainees. In addition, several machines will be available for inspection and trial, however, the instructors don't sell or endorse any brand of equipment.
The workshops, which run from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., are limited to 10 students, so early registration is advised. Cost is $250 per person.
