Northwest College’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month is in full swing with two more events scheduled in October.
Join Anne Toner, NWC assistant professor of art, as she presents a lecture about Spain’s artistic history, rich cultural heritage and her own travel experiences Monday, Oct. 2, at 4 p.m. in the Intercultural House. Her presentation also examines Spain’s history with other cultures such as the Ancient Romans and the Moors.
“Spain was the first country I went to outside the U.S.—mostly because tickets to Madrid were cheap, and I had some high school Spanish I was burning to try out,” Toner recalls. “I went back later in college to study abroad in a town outside of Madrid, and it was one of the best times of my life. More than anything, what keeps me coming back to Spain is that I really love its mix of cultural heritages.”
NWC’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month wraps up Monday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. with an event titled “Costa Rica: Paradise and Beyond.”
Christine Garceau, associate professor of photography, explores the country billed as one of the world’s most valuable ecological destinations when she discusses the NWC Photographic Communications trip to Costa Rica’s capital, San Jose, and Manuel Antonio National Park and coastline.
