P O W E L L, W y o. - Cody area residents can find workshops on customer service, community connections, communication and Quickbooks during the coming month at the Northwest College Cody Center for Training and Development.

A new series of customer service trainings begins with Customer Service In and Out of the Office, held Thursday, Feb. 22, from 8-9 a.m. Presented by Goldie Mandella, who has over 15 years of successful sales and service experience in banking and lending, this free program offers seven tips for excellent customer service, both in and out of the office.

"In the business world," Mandella said, "good customer service often isn't good enough anymore. Customers and clients are becoming increasingly disenchanted with merely adequate. For them, extraordinary service is the rule, not the exception. Anything less and they are happy to vote with their feet and their wallets. That makes extraordinary service necessary, not just desirable." Mandella will show how to develop a strategy to match that standout service standard on a daily basis.

Rhonda Shipp will talk about Forging Community Connections from 1-3 p.m. the same day. Shipp said it's human instinct to see solutions to problems and want to fix them. Other problems arise, however, when one person's solution affects other people who have different ideas, solutions, goals, needs, values or interests. She'll help participants learn to use a systematic approach to open communication in working with different perspectives and reaching a satisfactory conclusion in ways that will build and preserve relationships through the process of community action. Cost is $10 per person if registered by Friday, Feb. 16; cost is $25 after that.

Shipp will take a deeper look at community action Wednesday, March 14, in another workshop titled Dialogue or Discord: Better Communication for Better Results. She forwards the discussion of forging community relations through better communication by asking participants to practice situation mapping and reframing skills. This hour-and-a-half workshop begins at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $25 and includes lunch.

Quickbooks users who have problems getting things to work out right are invited to find solutions in a QuickBooks Troubleshooting class taught in two 6-9 p.m. sessions, Monday and Wednesday, Feb. 19 and 21. Instructor Lynne Whitmore, a certified public accountant, will address the specific problems identified by participants when they sign up for the class. She wants participants to bring a financial statement as of Dec. 31, 2006, and a profit/loss statement from 2006 to the first class. Cost is $30 and covers both sessions.
