P O W E L L, W y o. - Registration is still open for Therapeutic Horsemanship I: Introduction to Animal Assisted Learning and Therapy, a two-credit class offered Tuesday evenings at Northwest College. Registrations are accepted through Jan. 23. The class meets during an introductory session Tuesday, Jan. 16, but students don't really get started until Jan. 23.
Instructor Maria Sonett said the course focuses on equine assisted learning and psychotherapy by looking at the many roles and types of interactions for horses and humans in therapeutic work. Students get plenty of hands-on learning opportunities to develop the basic skills and knowledge to work in the rapidly growing field of animal assisted therapy.
Before the class is over, they'll have a beginning interpretation of equine psychology/behavior and horse/human interactions, be able to perform simple round pen exercises and analyze therapy exercises.
They'll also become familiar with a variety of therapeutic organizations, programs and certification requirements.
In-state tuition for this class is $156, plus fees. For more information about the class, call Anne Sherwood (307) 754-6471 or toll-free (800) 560-4692 ext. 6471. To register, call (800) 560-4692 or (307) 754-6148 in Powell, (307) 587-3376 in Cody or (307) 347-8541 in Worland.
