POWELL, Wyo. - The state of Wyoming will be represented by Northwest College at the 2013 Enactus USA National Exposition in Kansas City, Mo.
The NWC Enactus team qualified for the national competition by winning the Enactus USA Regional Competition held April 19 in Seattle, Wash.
“Without the immense support from our business advisory board and the faculty and staff of Northwest College,” team adviser Jan Kraft said, “what this team accomplished would have been a lot more difficult. We owe the Northwest College Student Senate a huge thank you for the financial support they have given us throughout the year.”
The NWC team carved its place at nationals competing against a host of four-year schools like the University of Great Falls, Northwest Nazarene University and Brigham Young University-Hawaii, the 2012 national third-place finisher.
The culmination of the Enactus program is an annual series of competitions that provide a forum for teams to present the results of their projects and to be evaluated by business leaders serving as judges. Teams compete first at the regional and national levels, then at the international level when the national champion teams from each country meet at the Enactus World Cup.
During the academic year, the NWC Enactus team organized 19 projects in the Big Horn Basin, including ReBuild-ReHome-ReEducate, Healthy Kids, Campbell’s Let’s Can Hunger and the Walmart Women’s Empowerment Project. At the regional competition, they explained their projects and their plans for sustaining them into the future.
“We felt like our projects made a huge impact in the community, and the regional championship would indicate the judges agreed with our assessment,” Jess Dingham, the team president said. “We feel very privileged that the Powell community allowed us into their lives. Winning at regionals was just the first step in our long-range plan; next is going after a national championship in May and completing even more work in the Powell and Cody communities.”
