POWELL, Wyo. - The Northwest College Center for Training and Development is again partnering with local industries and employers to present 10-week training programs for survey technicians and construction workers. Classes begin Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the NWC Cody Center.
The Survey Technician Training Program is taught by the Professional Land Surveyors of Wyoming-Northwest Chapter. The 80-hour course prepares participants for employment in this high-demand field.
Students will learn about the various types of surveys and the differences between them, about survey control points and how they relate to the various types of surveys, the different types of survey field notes, survey computations, field equipment and instruments, and office operations. They'll get experience with leveling and traversing, and also learn how to read and understand basic maps and plans.
The class meets from 6-10 p.m. on several Tuesdays and Thursdays from Feb. 17-April 21, and from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 28 and April 18. It includes 32 hours of lecture, 24 hours of laboratory and 24 hours of field study.
Due to special funding, the NWC Center for Training and Development is able to offer this program for $352, which includes three college credits and all of the training materials. The registration deadline is Tuesday, Feb. 10.

The Construction Trades Program also meets Tuesday and Thursday evenings, Feb. 17-May 2, from 6-9 p.m. in the NWC Cody Center. Lab sessions are held Saturdays from 9 a.m. 3 p.m. at the Mountain Spirit Habitat for Humanity building site in Cody. Habitat for Humanity provides the lead instructor with mini sessions taught by local area contractors.
This program was designed in consultation with Park County builders and contractors to meet national building standards and the needs of the local workforce. Students will learn basic safety and rigging, plus receive an introduction to construction math, hand tools, power tools and blue prints. Upon successful completion of the course, they'll receive a Northwest College certificate and are eligible for job placement with a contractor.
Cost for the course is $250. The registration deadline is Thursday, Feb. 12.
