POWELL, Wyoming — The Northwest College Forensics Team traveled light to a December swing tournament in Rock Springs but still managed to be heavy hitters on the medal podium.
With only eight students competing, NWC placed second and third, respectively, in the Winter is Coming tournament hosted Friday, Dec. 4, by Western Wyoming Community College and the Saturday, Dec. 5, Rustler Round-up, sponsored by Central Wyoming College.
Over the course of the two days in Rock Springs, Clinton Cordova of Byron made the most trips to the podium, bringing back a first and second in after dinner speaking, second and fourth in drama, and two thirds in duet.
Josey Nickles of Powell earned a first and second in duet and a second and fourth in prose. Emily Myers of Worland took first and second in duet (with Nickles) and two fifths in communication analysis.
Lovell’s Sage Whicker scored a sixth in persuasive communication, and Megan Patton of Rock Springs added two thirds in duet, a third in poetry, and a fifth and seventh place in drama. Greybullite Jarelly Castro scored a fifth in persuasive communication.
Taylor Moles of Paris, Texas, claimed identical placings in both tournaments: fourth in after dinner speaking and sixth in communication analysis.
This was the NWC team’s last 2015 tournament. Before starting spring semester classes, the team will host a Trapper Rendezvous Tournament for high school students Friday and Saturday, Jan. 8 and 9.
After that, they’re scheduled to compete in Seward Nebraska in January, and in Casper and San Diego, California, in February.
