Safety certification training offered first week of November in Cody

P O W E L L,  W y o. - Safety certification and recertification trainings from the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) will be offered Monday through Friday, Nov. 3-7, at the Northwest College Cody Center for Training and Development located in the Park County Complex on Stampede Avenue.

Workers needing initial safety certification can earn their certificates by completing MSHA's Part 46 New Miner Training offered from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, Nov. 3-5. This three-day course, which covers all topics necessary to acquire first-time certification, looks at supervisor responsibility, electrical hazards, transportation, communication, accident prevention, noise hazards, Part 62, first aid, respirators, dust hazards, fire safety, Hazcom and ground control. Cost is $149 per person.

Safety-certified individuals who need to recertify can do so in the Part 46 Annual Refresher course given from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6. Cost is $60 per person and includes an update on ground control, transportation, communication, electrical hazards, accident prevention, Hazcom, blasting and explosives, noise hazards, dust hazards, respirators, mandatory health and safety, and first aid.

Additionally, this year the Part 48 Annual Refresher Training will be held Friday, November 7 from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. The cost is $60 per person and includes an update for those who work in coal and gypsum industries.

An instructor from the Wyoming MSHA State Grant Program will provide training in all three classes. The twice-yearly trainings are offered through the Northwest College Cody Center for Training and Development (CTD).

Each class is limited to 25 participants, with a minimum of 10 enrollees.
