POWELL, Wyo.— Student Josiah Baker and instructor/conductor Tim Schoessler, both of Northwest College, will present “Resonance and Rhythm,” a violin and piano recital Sunday, April 29, in the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium in Powell.
As Baker’s capstone project, the recital will include an educational featurette on music, as well as a free informal dinner for attendants. Children and other students interested in musical learning opportunities are especially encouraged to attend.
Baker and Schoessler will open the program with the Franck Sonata for Violin and Piano. One of the most popular works for two instruments ever written, this piece has been transcribed for instruments ranging from flute, to cello, to organ. It was written by César Franck in 1886 as a wedding present to his friend, the virtuoso violinist Eugene Ysaÿe.
After intermission, Baker will perform the second and third movements of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, with Schoessler accompanying in place of a full symphony orchestra. It is a difficult and deeply romantic piece, reflecting Baker’s passion for the Romantic period of music.
The program will begin at 5 p.m. and conclude with a short presentation on classical music. Dinner is provided afterward.
