POWELL, Wyo. - Big Horn Basin residents can get a taste of Great Britain and Irish pub culture right here in Powell Thursday evening, March 20.
Taking the pub tradition back to its original roots, Pub Night will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the Northwest College Foundation’s Nelson House. The word “pub” comes from “public house.” In older times, the term signified someone’s house that had been opened to the public, truly becoming the neighborhood’s living room.
Fish and Chips will be served, along with beverages and a selection of British and Irish beer and spirits (for those age 21 and above with ID).
The Nelson House living room will showcase a collection of NWC faculty and student artworks to be raffled during the evening. British and Irish themed items, including a Johnson Bros. of England Rose Chintz tea set, will also be available for bid in a silent auction.
Kids and adults alike can participate in “pub quizzes”— trivia games popular in British, Irish and Scottish establishments. The atmosphere is designed to be a warm and welcoming activity for families, students and people of all ages, just as in pubs across the Atlantic.
The $10 admission fee at the door covers food and nonalcoholic beverages. Family admission is $30.

All proceeds from the Pub Night will be used to help the NWC Art Club underwrite a trip to the British Isles in May, where students will visit Neolithic sites, abbeys, museums and view the Book of Kells in Dublin.
