“Poetry & Motion,” an exhibition of photography by Rowene Weems, director/curator of the Homesteader Museum in Powell, Wyoming, opens with a 4:30 p.m. artist’s reception in Northwest College’s Advising Center located in the Orendorff Building.
Weems received her first camera at age 14. She has lived in Powell since 1982 and continues to pursue her passion for art through photography. Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries, museums and art centers throughout Wyoming, Montana, Colorado and New York. As a museum curator, she shares that creating exhibits from the historic photograph collection is one of the highlights of her career.
“This body of blurred motion photography experiments with mood, atmosphere, spontaneity and energy,” Weems said. “While the subjects and moods vary greatly, the images are united by their sense of movement and energy.”
Each image demonstrates the interplay between shutter speed, aperture and camera movement. No special lenses or filters have been applied during the creative process.
“I have always been drawn to the partially-rendered sketches of the masters, where portions of the image are left to the imagination,” Weems adds. “I also continue to be inspired by the impressionist painters whose techniques evoke perceptions of reality, movement and energy.”
Refreshments will be available at the reception for guests. This event is free and open to the public.
