POWELL, Wyoming — The Northwest College Wild West Players will host winter performances of “The Cody Monologues: Famous and Infamous Women of the West,” beginning Dec. 8, in the NWC Nelson Performing Arts Auditorium. The play comes to Powell from the Studio Theatre at the Cody Center for Performing Arts (CCPA).
The show begins each evening at 7:30 p.m. from Thursday to Saturday, Dec. 8-10. An additional 2 p.m. matinee will be held Friday, Dec. 9.
“Cody Monologues,” which premiered in Cody in July 2016, features discourses by six female characters who played important, if sometimes forgotten, roles in the founding and shaping of Park County’s largest city.
The play was written by Bethany Sandvik, who reprises her role as director for the Powell performance. In selecting her topic for the play, Sandvik said she wanted to bring into the spotlight some of the women who contributed to the character of Buffalo Bill’s town but have been relegated to the shadows by the dominace of his legend.
Sandvik is the founder and director of the Studio Theatre at the CCPA and serves as the drama coach at Cody High School.
“The Cody Monologues” features local actors Virginia Schmidt as Caroline Lockhart, Maureen Hinckley-Cole as Etta Feeley, Bianca Chavez as Dr. Frances Lane and Karen Grimm as Orilla Downing. NWC students cast in the production include Annamarie Victor as Olive Fell, Mellissa Kellet as Cassie Waters, Alison Hanlon as an understudy for Dr. Lane and Zoe Lentz as an understudy for Olive Fell.
“The Studio Theatre is so excited and proud to present ‘The Cody Monologues’ at Northwest College,” Sandvik said. “The play was presented in Cody this past summer to local audiences as well as visitors, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. I’m excited for the people of Powell to see it.”
Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for seniors. Children 12 and under and students with a college ID are admitted free. Payment will be accepted at the door.
Studio Theatre productions of “The Cody Monologues” will continue in the summer of 2017 at the CCPA in Cody. For more information, visit: www.codyperformingarts.com.
