After having to skip Northwest College’s annual Paint the Town Red last summer due to COVID-19, the perennially popular event will return to downtown Powell Friday, Sept. 10, from 4 p.m. to midnight. Paint the Town Red will be held 75 years to the day after the College was opened Sept. 10, 1946.
Powell residents of all ages are invited to attend the event and help welcome both new and returning Northwest College students to the downtown area. Paint the Town Red will be the first in a series of scheduled events throughout the year to celebrate NWC’s 75th anniversary milestone.
A weekend full of fun in Powell, area residents can also plan to attend the Homesteader Days Festival, which will return to town Sept. 10 and 11 and will be held on First and Clark Streets.
“This year’s event will showcase live music, hands-on activities for kids, demonstrations, crafts, farm equipment and much more,” Curator/Director of the Homesteader Museum Brandi Wright said. “The Homesteader Days Festival is always a fun event and a great opportunity to celebrate what Powell is all about.”
In keeping with Paint the Town Red traditions, NWC students will receive dinner tickets for use with food vendors and be encouraged to take part in the festivities in order to get acquainted to Powell, the community and all town has to offer.
This year’s concert kicks off with a performance by NWC music students, who will open for Tris Munsick & the Innocents.
Constantly on the road, Munsick has shared the stage with artists like Big and Rich, Lyle Lovett, Blackhawk, the Eli Young Band, Cody Johnson, Casey Donahew, Marty Stuart and several others.
“Tris Munsick is the real deal,” recording artist Chancey Williams said. “He can write about and represent cowboy culture, because he was born in it and lives it. Tris is an artist that is really finding his voice in the American West.”
In addition to the concert, following is a schedule of activities that will take place throughout this year’s Paint the Town Red event.
