POWELL, Wyo. - Humor and hijinks break out on stage when “Out of Order” is performed Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 and 8, at the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium.
The curtains rise at 7:30 p.m. for this community theater comedy directed by Fred Ebert, an instructor of speech communications and forensics at Northwest College.
“Now that the nasty political ads are over,” Ebert said, “It’s time to start laughing at politics again. This play has it all: an extramarital affair, secrets, and even a dead body.”
Written by English playwright Ray Cooney, “Out of Order” is set in the 1990s and revolves around a junior minister in parliament, Richard Willey (played by Glen Hardy of Cody), who will go to extraordinary means to lie his way out of an embarrassing situation.
The farce is kicked into action when a dead body appears in the hotel room where he is planning a tryst with a female secretary from the opposition party.
“Each of the lead actors has had professional training at one time or another,” Ebert said, predicting the audience will appreciate the level of talent on stage. “Comedy is hard work for any actor, but these people are top-notch. They have a terrific sense of timing and handle the slapstick elements with aplomb.”
Ebert said he also appreciates the hard work of NWC faculty, administrators and students who pulled together to create the set.
Other Big Horn Basin actors cast in the production include James Hooper of Lovell and Alex Flom and Virginia Norris of Powell.
General admission to “Out of Order” is $5, or $4 and a canned good to be donated to Powell Loaves & Fishes.
