POWELL, Wyoming — Big Horn Basin musicians are invited to participate in an opportunity that’s rare for small town instrumentalists—playing in an orchestra.
The Northwest Civic Orchestra (NCO) is looking for violin, viola, cello and bass players as well as horn players and bassoonists.
“This is a community orchestra,” director Maurine Akin said. “Musicians don’t need to play at a professional level to join. Most importantly, we share a love of music and a desire to perform occasionally.”
The NCO rehearses from 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday evenings at Northwest College in Powell. Three to four performances are scheduled each year from September-May. NCO musicians take the summers off.
There is no charge to participate, but college credit is available for those who are interested.
Musicians of all ages are invited to join with the director’s approval.
