POWELL, Wyo. ─ Anyone with a camera and a passion for photography is invited to be part of the world’s largest global social photography event Saturday, Oct. 11, in Cody.
The Northwest College Photographic Communications program will host the Scott Kelby Seventh Annual Worldwide Photo Walk beginning at 10:45 a.m. in front of the Visitor Center at the Cody Country Chamber of Commerce. The event ends with a lunch gathering at the Whole Food Trading Company, 1134 13th St.
This is the third year NWC has partnered with the Kelby Media Group for the annual worldwide event. It takes place on the same day in 1,200 cities around the world. Photographers of all walks of life and skill levels gather together, usually in downtown areas, to socialize, learn new tips from each other and explore their corner of the world through photography.
In 2013, over 30,000 photographers around the globe participated, including over 30 photographers who joined in the Cody walk.
There’s no cost to participate. All that’s needed is a camera and a passion for photography.
“It doesn’t matter what kind of camera you use,” Christine Garceau, NWC assistant professor of photography, said. “People have used simple point-and-shoot and even disposable cameras in the past, had a blast and left with a new appreciation for photography and some great local connections.”
Participants in the Worldwide Photo Walk can connect before, during and after the event using the #WWPW2014 hashtag on social media channels.
Registered participants are eligible to win a variety of photography-related prizes.
Garceau is the leader for the Cody walk, along with Jane Johnson, NWC’s digital studio specialist. For more information, or to register to be eligible for prizes, contact Garceau, 307-754-6497, or Johnson, 207-518-8053.
