POWELL, Wyo. - Big Horn Basin residents are invited to sample the tastes and traditions of other countries without leaving the basin on Saturday, April 18, at the Northwest College Multicultural Showcase.
The venue is the Trapper Room and Dining Hall, located in the basement of the DeWitt Student Center. These rooms can be accessed by taking the ramp down from the outside of the building entrance on 7th St.
Sponsored by the college's 2009 Multicultural Events Committee and the International Club, the showcase runs from 1-4 p.m. Among the attractions are displays, demonstrations, musical performances, poetry readings, plus food from around the world. Fabrics from many parts of the world will be on display while a silent auction offers items from a variety of countries.
In a virtual feast for the senses, participants can watch a style show of traditional clothing worn in other cultures, take part in games from far-off places, listen to piano music and singing, learn calligraphy and, of course, sample food from Colombia, Austria, Japan, Venezuela, Vietnam, Korea, France, Brazil, India, Tanzania, Mexico and other countries.
Most of the work for the showcase is accomplished by members of NWC's International, Spanish, French and Native Ways clubs along with students from two cross-cultural studies courses.
Admission to the International Showcase is free. Food tickets sell for minimal prices at the door.
