POWELL, Wyo. - The Northwest College Wind Band and Cody High School Band blend their talents in a musical smorgasbord at the annual Wind Band spring concert Tuesday, April 17, in the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium.
The evening performances start at 7:30 p.m. under the direction of Cody High School Band Director Wade French. The CHS Band performs their district festival repertoire of “Novena” by James Swearingen, “Appalachian Morning” by Robert Sheldon and the Sousa favorite “The Fairest of the Fair.”
The NWC Wind Band takes the stage under the baton of NWC Director of Bands Neil Hansen. NWC sophomore clarinet major Jonathon Pattishall-Baker of Encampment, Wyo., is the band’s featured soloist on the Rondo from Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto. Additional selections include a march, “The Melody Shop” by Karl King, “Pas Redouble” by Saint-Saens and “Candide Suite” by Leonard Bernstein.
Both bands join forces to close the program with two additional numbers. French will conduct the combined groups in James Swearingen’s “Flight of Valor,” followed by Hansen’s direction of David Shaffer’s “An Almighty Fortress.”
