POWELL, Wyoming — Reservations are being accepted for spots on Northwest College’s annual trip to the Big Apple in January. Early registration is advised because the seven-day excursion to New York City fills quickly.
The 2017 trip, scheduled Jan 16-22, takes in theatrical performances, tourist sites, shopping and more.
Fred Ebert, an NWC assistant professor of speech communications, is the faculty sponsor. He and Duane Fish, Susie Rodriguez and Neal Straight will be the group’s tour guides to New York’s theatre scene.
Ebert said participants are treated to preferred seating at five Broadway and off-Broadway shows. Popular picks on recent trips have included “Book of Mormon,” “Something Rotten,” “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder,” “Shuffle Along,” “The King and I.”
A backstage tour is also part of the package, as well as a personal introduction to at least one Broadway performing actor. Most recent celebrity introductions have included Glenn Close and Telly Leung.
Plenty of time is allotted for individual and small-group touring in addition to the whole-group agenda. The tour schedule changes each year according to the interests of individual participants, but previous groups have dined at the famed Ellen’s Stardust Diner on Times Square, visited the Freedom Tower, Lincoln Center, Statue of Liberty, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, Central Park, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, plus shopped on Fifth Avenue, walked through Little Italy and China Town, and much more.
The group will headquarter at the Hampton Inn on 35th St., just around the corner from the Empire State Building and a short walk to Times Square.
The cost per person for the trip, based on double occupancy, is $2,100, which covers airfare from Billings, Montana, hotel, a couple of evening meals, five theater tickets, admission to a variety of venues/events, Metro passes, transfers and transportation to and from Billings. Beyond this, students are responsible for class tuition and fees, meals, and personal activities.
