POWELL, Wyoming — Northwest College history students now have a road map leading to a bachelor’s degree at Valley City State University in North Dakota, and they can earn it without leaving Powell.
Thanks to a new articulation agreement between Northwest and VCSU, Northwest history students now have assurances about courses they need to take to meet requirements for two baccalaureate degrees in history.
“I’m delighted to see this agreement,” NWC President Stefani Hicswa said. “We’ve had a longstanding, strong educational partnership with VCSU, and this history articulation enhances the effective relationship between our institutions.”
VCSU degrees offered under the agreement include a Bachelor of Science Degree in History Education and Bachelor of Arts in History, according to NWC Professor of History Steve Thulin.
“Part of the advantage this agreement gives Northwest students is that they can complete the degrees while remaining in Powell all four years,” Thulin explained.
According to the agreement, NWC provides general education courses, supplementary curriculum and elective courses satisfying VCSU graduation requirements. Online courses are then delivered to obtain the required 30 credits from the North Dakota university.
NWC provides a liaison who guides students through the program, and a VCSU representative is available to advise students each semester.
