P O W E L L, W y o. - If the first tournament is any indication of what's coming, the Northwest College Forensics Squad is in for another good year.
The NWC squad bested 21 other teams to claim the championship among community colleges at the University of Wyoming's Top of the Rockies Tournament Oct. 3-5. They claimed the runner-up spot among all two- and four-year schools, ceding only to Washburn University from Kansas.
NWC's debaters were all eliminated in octofinals, but the individual-events speakers took plenty of space on the award stage. In overall speaker points, Pam Garman placed seventh, followed by Ben Norberg in ninth and Danyon Satterlee in 10th place.
Ben Norberg took first in duet interpretation with partner Danyon Satterlee and third in communication analysis. Satterlee paired her duet placing with another first in prose interpretation. Tiffani Kennedy finished first in informative speaking and second in persuasive speaking.
Cali Christensen took second in communication analysis; Adam Albert finished the same in after-dinner speaking, also picking up sixth in prose interpretation. Pam Garman took third in extemporaneous speaking, and Kaleb Olson mirrored that in after-dinner speaking.
Preston Eckerdt nailed fourth place in program oral interpretation with Andrew Sisk claiming the fifth place spot in prose interpretation.
The NWC Forensics Team heads next to Casper Oct. 9-11 to compete in the Pioneer Trails Tournament at Casper College.
