POWELL, Wyoming — As America tackles the question of what qualities matter most in the next president of the United States, students at Northwest College invite the larger community to a Monday, Nov. 7, discussion about what it takes to become a leader in other countries.
The discussion starts at 7 p.m. in the NWC Intercultural House on the eve of one of the most tumultuous presidential elections in recent history. In a country where a Hollywood actor, peanut farmer and reality show celebrity have all run for the highest office, this program broadens the context to look at “Ascent to Power: How leaders around the world come to positions of leadership and power.”
Students in NWC’s Politics Club will ask the college’s international students
“How do people come to positions of power and leadership in your country?” They’ll look at qualifications and the leverage brought to bear by money, education, family connections, personality and character. Participants will also learn what other ladders to leadership, besides the election process, are the norm in other parts of the world.
The program is free; the discussion promises to be lively, provocative and perhaps even surprisingly affirmative of the American political system.
