POWELL, Wyo. - Trumpeters will get extra-special treatment at the 2013 Northwest College Trumpet and Trombone Festival Saturday, Feb. 16. Instead of just one guest trumpet artist, this year’s festival features four returning trumpeters.
John Harbaugh, Jay Coble, Karl Sievers and Jim Stokes will tutor area trumpet players and play as a quartet in a “best of the best” return engagement. Tromboners will learn from Mark Soueidi, a lecturer at the University of Wyoming’s trombone studio.
Big Horn brass players are invited to improve their playing through this rare opportunity and to contribute their sounds to the trumpet and trombone ensembles concert. Rehearsal begins at 4 p.m.in the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium.
Neil Hansen, director of bands at NWC, encourages brass players across the Big Horn Basin to email or call him at 307-754-6427 to get instructions for downloading the ensemble music.
“All players middle school age and older who want to improve their technique or who just want to blow their horns are welcome,” Hansen said. “We will never have this lineup of clinicians again.”
The day-long event features clinics, demonstrations, master classes, ensembles, instrument displays and more. Codirected by Hansen and Rick Parmer, the festival culminates in a free public concert at 7 p.m. in the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium.
The festival is supported in part by a grant from the Wyoming Arts Council, through funding from the Wyoming State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
