POWELL, Wyo. ─ Two Northwest College music groups preview their fall repertoire and the acoustics in the new Yellowstone Building during a 7:30 p.m. Choral Sampler, Tuesday, Oct. 14.
NWC choir director Jan Kliewer said he left the door wide open when selecting music for the first concert to be held in the Yellowstone Building. The College Choir will sing a wide array of music, everything from “soup to nuts,” in their musical exploration of compositions from 16th century Europe to 19th century American folk music.
The mood changes considerably for the second half of the concert. Under the direction of Craig Olson, the Studio Singers and their rhythm section bring the true American art form of jazz into the spotlight. They’ll greet the season with a bossa nova version of Johnny Mercer’s well-known jazz standard “Autumn Leaves,” then swing their way home with “Let’s Live Again,” an upbeat tune by George Shearing.
Admission is free.
