POWELL, Wyo. - Big Horn Basin residents are invited to join a Northwest College field studies class that will explore art museums in New York City over spring break. An informational meeting about this new class is scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, in Room 4 of the Art Department, located in the Cabre Building on campus.
The class departs Powell Thursday, March 10, and returns Wednesday, March 16. It is led by Elaine DeBuhr, an assistant professor of art who lived in New York City for several years.
The class will visit a variety of art collections, including those at the Metropolitan Museum, Museum of Modern Art, Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art and The Cloisters (Metropolitan’s branch devoted to medieval art).
DeBuhr said there will be time allotted between museum visits for sightseeing and a Broadway show.
The trip is preceded by on-campus sessions that focus on introductions to the major museums, their collections and featured exhibitions.
Community members can enroll in the one-credit version of the class (instead of three credits), saving on the cost of tuition.
The travel costs are $1,250, which includes airfare, hotel room based on double occupancy, admission to museums and all transportation. Participants are responsible for their own meals, airport baggage fees, shopping money and course tuition.
