POWELL, Wyo. - The Northwest College Music Program has once again received full accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
After visiting the NWC campus in 2012, a NASM team found the music facilities/department in good standing, citing as strengths the program’s faculty, favorable student-to-faculty ratio, leadership, enrollment stability, ensemble and scholarship programs, innovative delivery of instruction (Skype and other technology), as well as other point.
According to the report, “Clearly, the Northwest College Music Department is the cornerstone of the cultural scene in the Powell community, and it enjoys a healthy relationship with the region, undoubtedly cultivated by an active and talented faculty and supportive administration. Community members attend musical performances, the jazz festival, and other events held by the college.”
The visitors’ report also recommended attention to issues concerning adequate storage and teaching spaces and staff accompanist. The college must submit a progress report by Oct. 1 to show that sound isolation issues in the Nelson Performing Arts Center have been remediated.
The NWC Music Program has been accredited with NASM since 1996. It will be reviewed again in the 2021-22 academic year.
