Budding scientists throughout the Big Horn Basin will demonstrate their knowledge and compete in the Northern Junior Regional Science Fair at Northwest College Thursday, Jan. 17.
Beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the Yellowstone Building, middle school students, grades sixth through eighth, will present a variety of projects for the judges to evaluate. Those who earn first, second and third place awards will qualify for the Wyoming State Science Fair in Laramie, Wyoming, March 3-5.
Categories for student projects include animal and plant sciences; behavioral and social sciences; biomedical and health sciences, biomedical engineering and translational medical sciences; chemistry and chemical energy; biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, as well as computational biology and bioinformatics; earth and environmental sciences and environmental engineering; engineering mechanics, materials science and physical energy; mathematics; microbiology; physics and astronomy; robotics and intelligent machines and embedded systems and systems software.
Judging takes place from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in Yellowstone Building Conference Center. During this time, visitors are welcome to view the projects and talk with middle school presenters.
The Northwest College Biology and Chemistry Departments will offer demonstrations and hands-on activities for students from 12:30-1:15 p.m.
The event concludes with an awards ceremony from 1:30-2 p.m.
