POWELL, Wyo. - Young Northwest College Forensics team members continued to surprise their coaches with their performances at tournaments in Bellingham, Wash., and Cheyenne.
The large Northwest Designated tournament Jan. 24-27 in Washington wasn’t on the NWC schedule until a closer competition was cancelled. This is a larger tournament than the team usually attends, but NWC students still claimed a dozen awards in individual events and parliamentary speaker placings. Matt Dillon of Greybull was the top earner, bringing home a first in program oral interpretation, fifth in prose and sixth in drama.
The team traveled to the Fiesta Flatland Swing Feb. 1-3 in Cheyenne where they placed second overall behind Texas Southern University and first in debate sweepstakes. The trip netted 24 individual awards, with Katie Slacks of Billings, Mont., scoring the highest honor with a first place speaker award in novice parliamentary debate.
The NWC speakers will be on the road again Feb. 15-17 to compete at the Western States Tournament at the University of Nevada-Reno.
