POWELL, Wyoming — Northwest College’s domain name is being significantly shortened—from northwestcollege.edu to nwc.edu.
After June 30, northwestcollege.edu will no longer work as part of employee or student email addresses or in connecting to NWC’s website, according to Mark Kitchen, NWC vice president for college relations.
“The change was made to simplify what I refer to as the college’s ‘middle name’ for promotional purposes, email, logins, etc.,” Kitchen said. “It’s much easier for prospective students to remember and can also be more prominently used on promotional materials and advertisements where space is a consideration.”
The new nwc.edu domain name is now being used on publications, advertising, etc., as well as in employee and student email addresses. Employees worked to spread the word all year by communicating with specific external contacts with whom they regularly correspond.
Prior to last summer, nwc.edu was in use by a private Minnesota college, Kitchen explained. It was abandoned when the institution changed its name and became a university. That’s when NWC acted quickly to purchase it from Educause, a nonprofit association that advances higher education through information technology.
Because colleges and universities aren’t allowed to have more than one edu-extension domain name, Northwest is leaving its long-used domain name behind on July 1.
