P O W E L L, W y o. - The Northwest College Center for Training and Development (formerly Workforce Development) is launching a new training lineup this semester. Worland area residents are invited to stop in at the NWC Worland Center to check out the class lineup and meet Gina Hunt.
Hunt is the NWC Worland Center secretary. She can answer questions and help students register for both NWC credit classes and noncredit trainings offered through the NWC Center for Training and Development. She's at the Worland Center from 3-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
The first 2007 training is Basic Bookkeeping, taught by Amy Lamm, an NWC adjunct faculty, from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 13-22. This introductory level course is geared to those individuals who find themselves wearing the bookkeeper's hat at their job, as well as those who just want to feel a little more secure in their established bookkeeping duties. The training covers the general journal, general ledger, bank account reconciliation, cash receipts journal, cash disbursements journal, payroll and payroll reports. Lamm asks participants to bring a one-month personal check register with them to the first class. Cost is $60 per person.
Lynn Whitmore, a certified public accountant, follows the Basic Bookkeeping class with a QuickBooks for Beginners training from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on two Saturdays, Feb. 24 and March 3. Aimed at those who have just purchased and/or begun using QuickBooks, it covers the fundamentals of the QuickBooks software program, including customer and vendor transactions, banking and creating a company file. Whitmore said the class provides lots of hands-on training so students become comfortable with the software and concepts before completing the class. Experience using Windows XP is preferred. Cost is $89 per person and includes a comprehensive manual.
The American Red Cross Babysitter's Training is a one-day workshop for youths aged 11-15 who want to work on babysitting skills and confidence. It meets from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, a break day for Washakie County School District No. 1.
Certified instructor Lisa Garretson uses an interactive strategy to ensure students learn how to administer first aid, get professional help quickly, identify common safety hazards and prevent injuries while caring for infants through school-age children. Participants need to bring a sack lunch, pencil and notebook. The $50 course fee includes a certification fee and a t-shirt.
