POWELL, Wyo. - The smells, tastes, sights and sounds from countries around the world, including Korea, Germany, Russia, Brazil, India, Chile and Vietnam, will fill the bottom floor of the DeWitt Student Center at Northwest College from 1-3:30 p.m., Saturday, March 31. Entrance is through the Trapper Room off of Seventh Street.
The annual Multicultural Showcase offers homemade food samples from around the globe, live entertainment, a silent auction and colorful display of authentic collectibles from countries on nearly every continent.
“This event is a wonderful opportunity for students, college employees and the community to come together and truly celebrate the diversity here on campus,” said Holly Wolcott, chair of the NWC Diversity Awareness Committee, the co-host of this year’s event, along with the International and Native Ways clubs and Student Senate.
The afternoon festivities are geared for the whole family, with displays and activities for all ages.
Inside the cafeteria, attendees can wander from booth to booth sampling recipes prepared by students from Japan, China, Hong Kong, Macau, the Philippines, Belarus, Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia, and many other countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America.
Visual feasts are offered in live entertainment from Korean and Native American students.
Admission is free. Tickets to sample food are $1 each but students with their IDs will get their first five tickets free.
Proceeds from the silent auction will be used to add to an existing scholarship for Luciana Parra Vera, the young Chilean daughter of former Northwest College student Carolina Parra Vera who was killed in a tragic bus crash two years ago.
Donations for the silent auction are welcome and can be dropped of in Room 108B of the Orendorff Building.
