POWELL, Wyo. - The smells, tastes, sights and sounds from countries around the world, including Korea, Germany, France, Algeria, Chile, Brazil and the Philippines, will fill the bottom floor of the DeWitt Student Center at Northwest College from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 26. Entrance is through the Trapper Room off of Seventh Street.
The annual Multicultural Showcase offers homemade food samples from around the globe, live entertainment, a silent auction and colorful display of authentic containers, such as boxes, baskets and more from countries on nearly every continent.
“This event is a wonderful opportunity for students, college employees and the community to come together and truly celebrate the diversity here on campus,” said Holly Wolcott, co-chair of the NWC Diversity Awareness Committee, the co-host of this year’s event, along with the International Club.
The afternoon festivities are geared for the whole family, with displays and activities for all ages.
Inside the cafeteria, attendees can wander from booth to booth sampling recipes prepared by students from Japan, South Korea, Kazakstan, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and many other countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America.
Visual feasts are offered in a fashion show and dances native to Algeria, the Bahamas, China and Brazil. Treats for the ear include performances on cello and a traditional Korean instrument, plus Chinese and American flute playing.
A presentation of animal sounds from around the globe promises fun and learning for kids of all ages.
The $3 admission price includes two food coupons. Additional food tickets can be purchased for $1 each. NWC students and children age 12 and under are admitted free but must pay for extra food coupons.
Proceeds from the silent auction will be used to create a scholarship for Luciana Parra Vera, the young Chilean daughter of former Northwest College student Carolina Parra Vera who was killed in a tragic bus crash last November.
