P O W E L L, W y o. - Greg Mosness, a Big Timber High School graduate, is doing a lot more than attending classes this fall as he enters his sophomore year at Northwest College in Powell, Wyo. He was elected president of the college's Student Senate before the end of the 2006 spring semester and even though the fall semester has barely started, he's already one of the busiest individuals on campus.
As the representative voice for the entire student body, Mosness serves on several college committees and boards, including the College Council, Student Appeals Board, Facilities Master Planning Committee and the Avian Flu Committee. He also reports on senate activities to the NWC Board of Trustees at its monthly meetings.
He's launched several new initiatives on campus, including a project to improve the atmosphere in the DeWitt Student Center. He's worked with the Student Activities Board to bring educational and entertainment programs to campus, and assisted with activities during Kickoff Weekend for incoming freshmen.
Mosness spoke at the Sept. 7 dedication ceremony for Simpson Hall, the college's newest residence hall named for former U.S. Sen. Alan Simpson and his wife, Ann. Mosness is himself a resident of the hall and met the building's namesakes during the dedication and open house.
All this is on top of presiding over the 17-member senate, which handles governance responsibilities for the Associated Students of Northwest and provides for the NWC Student Activities Board budget. Beyond offering assistance and financial support to campus clubs and organizations, the senate also contributes to local community projects and sponsors a midnight breakfast prior to finals week in December.
Mosness is studying ag education and plans to transfer to Colorado State University in Fort Collins after graduating from Northwest in May 2007. In high school he was active in FFA and played on the varsity golf team. His parents are Gary and Susie Mosness of Big Timber.
Northwest College, located in Powell, Wyo., 70 miles from Yellowstone National Park, is a two-year, residential college offering transfer and technical programs of study that blend traditional arts and sciences with emerging technologies.
