P O W E L L, W y o. - On May Day this year, keep an eye out for May baskets and trombones. If you're on the Northwest College campus, that is.

The NWC Music Department's Trombone Recital is a May Day affair, starting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1, in the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium.

The program begins with a musical presentation by five students selected from Rick Parmer's trombone studio at the college music department. Each student will perform a solo with piano accompaniment. Those selected to solo are Will Crompton of Evanston, Spencer Nelson of Cody, John Henderson, of Greybull, Dustin Hunt of Laurel, and Willy Parmer of Lovell.

The second half of the concert features a joint performance by the Northwest Trombone Choir and the Big Horns Trombone Ensemble with the latter's Jack Nauman featured as bass trombone soloist on Eric Ewazen's "Capriccio for Bass Trombone and Trombone Choir." The combined choirs will also offer up all-brass renditions of "When the Saints go Marching In" and "Scarborough Fair."

Both groups are directed by Parmer, an adjunct trombone instructor at Northwest.

Admission is free.
