POWELL, Wyo. - Only a handful of seats are still available for the 2013 NWC on Broadway class that travels Jan. 7-13 to the Big Apple.
Presented by Northwest College, the annual travel event takes in theatrical performances, tourist sites, shopping and more. Those who are interested can learn more at a 7 p.m. information meeting Monday, Sept. 17, in the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium on campus.
Fred Ebert, an NWC instructor in speech communications and forensics who also teaches theater, is the tour organizer. He’ll guide participants on a seven-day excursion of the theater scene including orchestra seating at five Broadway and off-Broadway shows. Past tours have seen productions like “Spiderman,” “Priscilla Queen of the Desert,” “Billy Elliot” and “War Horse.” This year’s selection will be determined largely by the students. A backstage tour is also part of the package.
Plenty of time is allotted for individual and small-group touring in addition to the whole-group agenda. The tour schedule changes each year according to the interests of individual participants, but previous groups have dined at the famed Ellen’s Stardust Diner on Times Square, visited the Empire State Building, Lincoln Center, Statue of Liberty, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, Central Park, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, plus shopped on Fifth Avenue, walked through Little Italy and China Town, and much more.
The group will headquarter in the historic Herald Square Hotel (the original LIFE Magazine building), nestled in the heart of midtown Manhattan, a short walking distance from Time Square, Macy’s and the shopping districts. Ebert said the hotel’s opulent gold and glittery exterior and classical room architecture is a perennial fascination for each new traveler.
The approximate cost per person for the trip, based on double occupancy, is $1,875, which covers airfare from Billings, Mont., lodging, one evening meal, five theater tickets, admission to a variety of venues/events, Metro passes, transfers and transportation to and from Billings. Beyond this, students are responsible for class tuition and fees, meals, checked baggage and personal activities.
