POWELL, Wyoming — Only a few seats are still available for the 2016 NWC on Broadway class that travels Jan. 4-10 to the Big Apple. The deadline to enroll is Friday, Oct. 2.
Presented by Northwest College, the annual travel event takes in theatrical performances, tourist sites, shopping and more.
Fred Ebert, an NWC assistant professor of speech communications, who also teaches theater, is the tour organizer. He’ll guide participants on a seven-day excursion of the theater scene including orchestra seating at five Broadway and off-Broadway shows. Past tours have seen productions like “Spiderman,” “Kinky Boots,” “Cabaret,” “Billy Elliot” and “War Horse.” This year’s selection will be determined with student input. A backstage tour is also part of the package.
Participants will be personally introduced to at least one Broadway performing actor and a makeup artist practicing on Broadway (last year’s celebrity experience was with Glenn Close).
Plenty of time is allotted for individual and small-group touring in addition to the whole-group agenda. The tour schedule changes each year according to the interests of individual participants, but previous groups have dined at the famed Ellen’s Stardust Diner on Times Square, visited the Empire State Building, Lincoln Center, Statue of Liberty, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, Central Park, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, plus shopped on Fifth Avenue, walked through Little Italy and China Town, and much more.
The group will headquarter in a hotel just off Times Square, a short walking distance from Macy’s and the shopping districts.
The cost per person for the trip, based on double occupancy, is $2,100, which covers airfare from Billings, Montana, hotel, a couple of evening meals, five theater tickets, admission to a variety of venues/events, Metro passes, transfers and transportation to and from Billings. Beyond this, students are responsible for class tuition and fees, meals, checked baggage and personal activities.
