POWELL, Wyoming — Chris Finley, a local archaeologist and adopted member of the Crow Tribe, will instruct a three-part class in Prehistoric Arrow Making and Techniques Wednesdays, April 13, 20 and 27.
Each three-hour session begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Northwest College Intercultural House.
Participants will learn flintknapping skills as they make their own arrowhead from rock. They’ll also learn how to craft a wooden arrow shaft and how to assemble the pieces with leather. Everyone in the class will leave with their own re-creation of a prehistoric stone tool they’ve made themselves using traditional means.
They’ll also pick up some historical and cultural insights from Finley, an adjunct professor who helped establish the NWC Archaeology Field School program through his former position as cultural resource program manager for the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area.
The class is free, but notice of intent to attend is appreciated to ensure enough materials are available.
